Darrell Johnson, Sr.

Darrell D. Johnson, Sr., 77 of Linkwood, Maryland passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on January 8, 1941 in Cambridge, Maryland he was a son of the late Lee and Sophroni Johnson.

He attended the local schools and graduated from Cambridge High School with the class of 1959.

Darrell joined the U.S. Army in 1966.  He proudly served his country overseas during the Vietnam War.  He was honorably discharged in 1968 as a SGT with the 47th Trans Co USARPAC.

On January 8, 1968 Darrell married the love of his life Helen Lewis.  Helen died on April 6, 2018.

Darrell retired from the Colonial Grocery Store as a meat cutter then went on to be a truck driver for many years.

Two of Darrell’s favorite past times were going to the American Legion Post #218 and the Linkwood Salem Fire Dept.   He also enjoyed camping, listening to his favorite country singer Conway Twitty, spending time with his family and his special friend Nick.  In his younger day, he enjoyed bowling, playing softball and doing the two-step with his wife Helen.  Darrell will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving him are children Darrell D. Johnson, Jr. (Christy), Donald Johnson (Melissa), Wendy Pitts (Pat), Dawn Johnson (Scott Warrell) and David Johnson, Sr.; grandchildren Crystal Presley (BJ), Candice Johnson, Ashley James (Josh), DJ Johnson (Samantha), Aimee Wilkins (Bryan), James Johnson, Megan Murphy (Matt), David Wayne Johnson, Jr., Chloe Warrell and Brock Warrell; great grandchildren Noah James, Braden Presley, Lucas Presley, Connor Wilkins, Hadleigh Murphy, Declan Johnson, Drew Wilkins and Haven Murphy; a sister Bonnie and a brother L.A; special friends Nick and Jackie Molisani; special neighbors David Sr. and Erika Foxwell.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 beginning 12:30 p.m. at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge with Pastor Ryan Hollis officiating.

A viewing and visitation with the family will begin one hour prior to the service.  Interment will begin at 2 p.m. at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock with military honors.

Serving as pallbearers will be Darrell Johnson, Jr., Donald Johnson, Sr., Patrick Pitts, Scott Warrell, Josh James and David Johnson, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Nick Molisani, Noah James and Brock Warrell.
