James Stewart

On Thursday June 3, 2021 James (“Big” Jim) Allen Stewart passed away peacefully in his sleep.

He leaves behind his wife of 58 years Martha Hodges Stewart and two children Peg Ewancio and husband Jerry of Berlin, MD and Jimmie Stewart and wife Lisa of Pasadena, MD.  He is survived by his brother John R. Stewart of Tuscola, Texas and four grandchildren Courtney Truelove, Abigail Stewart, Samantha Ewancio and Maxwell Ewancio.

Jim attended the University of Maryland at College Park and graduated 1959.  Immediately following graduation he entered active duty in the U.S. Navy.  In 1963 he entered reserve duty with the Navy and retired in 1994.

As a young boy Jim enjoyed attending the President’s Cup Regatta in Washington, DC with his father and brother and became hooked on inboard hydroplane racing.  In the 1960’s he became active in racing as a crew chief for a hydroplane team and occasionally rode in a Jersey Speed Skiff, a legacy passed down to the next two generations of his family.

There will be no services held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the APBA Historical Society or to the Caroline County Humane Society at carolinehumane.org
