Janet Lee Hill Travers, 63, of Brownsville, Texas, formerly of Cambridge, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Valley Regional Hospital in Brownsville, Texas.
Born July 24, 1950 in Cambridge, MD she was a daughter of the late Viola Mills and Wesley Hill.
Janet attended local schools in the area and graduated from Cambridge High School with the Class of 1968.
On February 16, 1974 Janet was united in marriage to Steven Wayne Travers and later was blessed with a beautiful daughter. They made their home in the Hurlock (Shiloh) area until 12 years ago relocating to Brownsville, Texas.
She was a member of the Salvation Army Church and attended regularly while still in the area.
Janet worked at Airpax Electronics for 25 plus years as a coordinator. She was a member of her local weight watchers. Janet had a love for all breeds of cats. She was an active caretaker of many. One of her trained cats would give her their paw on demand which fascinated many people. Janet was an exceptional wife, mother, daughter and friend. She had a most generous humble heart along with a sharp sense of humor right up to her unexpected passing.
Surviving her besides her husband and best friend Wayne is a daughter Stephanie M. Travers of Texas; mother-in-law Bessie Cohee who considered Janet her daughter of Florida; numerous brothers and sisters; nieces and nephews and friends of the family.
A funeral service will be held Friday, February 7, 2014 beginning 1 p.m. at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge, MD. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Officiating will be Lt. Col. William Crabson of the Salvation Army Church. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge.
Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Ross, Sr., Steven Ross, Jr., Darrell Ross, Sonny Dorman, Jimmy McCready and Wendell Travers.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Janet can be made to Kitty City Rescue, P.O. Box 1259, Cambridge, MD 21613.
