Jerome Lawrence

Jerome "Jerry" C. Lawrence, 72, of East New Market, Maryland passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at UMSMC at Easton. Jerry was born November 6, 1941 in New York, the son of the late Mary LeCompte Smith Lawrence and Dr. Jerome Lawrence. He graduated Salutatorian of his high school class on Long Island, and was accepted and attended Cornell University with a keen interest in math and science.
Jerry enjoyed dancing, especially ballroom dancing, and he and his mother danced with the local group, Dorchester Swingers. He had a special love for animals, especially cats. He loved the ones inside his house and the ones that stayed outside. As a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, he enjoyed Sunday School with his friend and teacher, David Tolley. When he was well, he took pride in serving as an usher and offering counter. Every year Jerry, along with his mother, sister Becky and sometimes her husband Steve, and nephew Mark looked forward to his family vacation at Ocean City. Always a gentleman, he was very appreciative of everyone who helped him. He was especially grateful during his final year, to his caregivers, Lory Abbott, Wanda Tolley, Yvonne Travers, Emily Newcomb, Marty Hall and Barbara Barnes.
Surviving are his sister Dr. Becky Enochs and her husband Dr. Steve Enochs, of Smithfield, VA; nephew Dr. Mark Enochs of Virginia Beach, VA; cousins Sharon Vinson, Grace Saunders, Allen Smith, Rosemary Garlitz, Clark Smith and Dick Smith; as well as several second cousins.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, East New Market, Maryland, with Pastor Karen Handy officiating and assisted by Mr. David Tolley and Mr. Guy Lowry. The family will receive friends at the church the hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Enochs, Steve Enochs, Fred W. Saunders III, Allen W. Smith, Bill “Sarge” Garlitz and Chuck Hurley.
