L. LOUISE WILCOX

L. Louise Wilcox, age 93, of Casson’s Neck, Cambridge, MD., died on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge, MD.

Born on September 9, 1915 in Casson’s Neck, Cambridge, MD, she was the daughter of the late Harry C. and Lena Thomas Bennett. She attended the local school there and resided in Casson’s Neck until her admission to the Chesapeake Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in December of 2002.

On December 21, 1935 she married C. Olie Wilcox. Together, they had celebrated sixty-one years of marriage until Mr. Wilcox’s death December 1, 1997. On August 5, 1938 their only child, Gordon N. Wilcox, was born. He died on January 14, 1991.

Mrs. Wilcox was a life-long member of Spedden United Methodist Church, where she faithfully attended until she became ill. She was a member of the Women’s Society and the church choir where she often sang duets with Leslie Bennett. One of their favorite selections was “Whispering Hope”. Mrs. Wilcox faithfully attended Mrs. Elsie Dail’s Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Wilcox was employed at the Rob Roy Shirt Factory, Race St. in Cambridge, and later transferred to the Maryland Avenue plant until her retirement. Shortly after beginning employment she became a “taxi driver” for the Neck District ladies who were working in the Cambridge area.

Vacation time, she and her husband looked forward to trips with Emerson “Peanut” and Emma Rosetta as they visited various states. They greatly enjoyed visits with their family and friends. It was always a joy to have their grandson, “J.R.”, visit with them on weekends.

Following retirement, she continued to do alterations at home as well as making quilts, which were highly prized by all who purchased them. She was a very talented seamstress. Mrs. Wilcox even made coats and suits. She took great pride in her workmanship.

Surviving is her daughter-in-law Barbara Wilcox of Florida; two grandson Gordon “J.R.” Wilcox of Florida, Richard Wilcox and his wife Dawn of Virginia; a granddaughter Melissa W. Adcock and her husband Jerald, Jr. of Florida; eight great-grandchildren Justin, Joshua, Jacob, Julie and Jessica Wilcox, Jerald Adcock III, Jordan and Jessica Adcock; two sisters-in-law Mrs. Iona R. Wilcox, Mrs. Hannah B. Bennett; three nieces Audrey W. Sammons, Irene W. Thomas and Bettye Mae Meredith.

Preceding her in death besides her parents, husband and son were two brothers Robert C. Bennett and Julian Bennett; and a sister Elizabeth B. Dail.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 21st at 1:00 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., 308 High St., Cambridge, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Pam Bockart, Pastor of the Choptank Charge. Burial will follow at Spedden-Seward Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard, “J.R.”, Justin, Joshua and Jacob Wilcox and Jim Coltschulte.
