Odus Moore Jr

Odus A. Moore Jr., 77, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the Mallard Bay Care Center, Cambridge.
Odus was born in Cambridge, March 15, 1935. He was the son of the late Odus, Sr. and Alta Jones Moore both of lower Dorchester County. He attended local schools and upon completion was employed by the Eastern Shore Hospital Center for eight years. Odus then joined Western Publishing, Inc. where he held several positions before retiring after thirty- five years of service. During his employment he also worked his passion as a waterman part time and became a full time waterman right up to the time his health would no longer allow.
An avid outdoorsman "Capt’n O" as he was fondly known in the community, loved fishing, crabbing and oystering. He enjoyed all the traditional Eastern Shore activities: hunting, fishing, dip netting, crab scraping, and carving decoys. Odus always liked to be a good neighbor, lending a hand when needed and offering advice when requested or sometimes just given freely. Odus felt a great sense of accomplishment when he was able to instruct local youth to master the skills and trade of watermen that he anxiously taught. Odus will be missed by many.
Odus was a past member of the American Legion Post # 91, the Maryland Waterman's Association and the Neck District Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving is his wife of 37 years, Millie Dean Moore, his adopted son John Christopher Moore, his wife Robin, grandsons Jacob Christopher Moore and Mitch Simmons, all of the Neck District.
Also surviving are his children from a prior marriage, Michael Andrew Moore of Cambridge; daughter Julie Reses and husband Jeff of New Jersey; grandchildren Jacqueline Monique Miles, Jessi Llewellyn, Jarus Moore, Philip Reses and Abigail Reses; and four great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, May 1, 2012 from 7 till 9 at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home P.A., Cambridge.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2012 beginning 1 pm. at the Immanuel Church of Christ, 5401 Whitehall Rd., Cambridge. Officiating will be Rev. Anne Swallow Gillis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Odus can be made to the Immanuel Church of Christ, 5401 Whitehall Rd, Cambridge, Md. 21613 or the Alzheimer's Association, Eastern Shore Chapter, 909 Progress Circle, Suite 400, Salisbury, MD. 21804
