Paul Hayward

Paul Kenneth Hayward, 58, of Cambridge passed away Friday, March 18, 2016 at UMSMC at Easton.
Born January 13, 1958, he was the son of Kenneth L. Hayward and the late Mildred Parker Hayward. Paul grew up on Hoopers Island. During his youth he was a member of Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church and was active in all the youth programs. He graduated from South Dorchester High School with the Class of 76, the schools last graduating class.
Upon graduating he entered the US Navy and proudly served his country for four years. He was stationed on the west coast and most of his duty was on the USS Thomaston. He was honorably discharged in 1980 after reaching the rank of E4.
Paul married the former Lisa Youngbar. They were married for thirteen years.
After returning from the Navy, Paul carried on the local tradition of being a waterman. After some years he started working at Coldwater Seafood Co. The lure of the open road drew him to trucking, the profession he greatly loved. He started with USA Trucking and then Carlton Trucking.
On June 30, 2000 Paul married Dawn Hamilton. They enjoyed eleven years together before her passing on November 6, 2011.
Paul lived a rather free spirited lifestyle. He enjoyed the music of Hank Williams Jr. and Travis Tritt, was always fond of sports such as NASCAR racing (especially Earnhardt and Earnhardt Jr.), the NBA and the Washington Redskins. A kind and gentle giant, his greatest love was for his family and his dog Frieda who was his constant companion.
Surviving is his father Kenneth Hayward of Cambridge; sister Brenda Anthony; nephew Roger "Lee" Anthony, Jr., both of Palmyra, VA; step children Savannah, Gerald and Jethro; several cousins and his beloved dog Frieda.
Preceding him in death besides his mother Mildred and wife Dawn was his brother-in-law Roger Lee Anthony.

Posted by: Alex Fehsenfeld Paul was a loyal friend who I considered a big brother. I was 28 and he was 35 when I met him. He was a kind hearted man to those of us who knew him. He loved working on the water crabbing and oystering."Wolf" was his call name on the water. I can see him now driving down Hoopers Island Road in his blue Monte Carlo with crab baskets stuffed in the car and trunk. Later of course it was his Red and grey Dodge pick up he loved so much. He was in the prime of his life full of hope and happiness. Back then it was his dog Chrissie he had then. Paul once went swimming in the Great Marsh Creek in Golden Hill at Cedar Grove and when he jumped in Chrissie the dog got so scared for his safety she wined and went right in after him and grabbed him by the arm, he was amazed as I was. I tell my children about Paul all the time. Paul watched me propose to my wife of 16 years. We will miss fishing with Paul and talkin away our problems. Paul, I will cherish our friendship forever. You were and are a good person who worked hard and rolled with the punches of life. You treated me with kindness and fairness. You are one of the few people in my life that made a impact of goodness when I needed it. My old friend I will miss you. I will remember the good times and your heart. You had a good heart. You were a good person. We cried together and laughed together. Hillary and I will deeply miss you. Knowing your not here on earth is a tough thing but knowing your with your Mom in heaven gives he comfort. I'm sorry I missed your funeral I did not know you died until April 24th. My Guilt certainly changes a man. God Bless You and Your soul. I loved you man. Good Bye my old friend. 04/29/2016 Posted by: Ellen Aaron Horesh Mr. Kenny, Brenda and family, God bless you. Please take comfort in knowing that soon all those in the memorial tombs will hear Jesus voice and come out (John 5:28,29). Until that blessed day, may the GOD of all comfort grant you peace (2 Cor. 1:3,4) while many fond memories of Paul warm your hearts. 03/26/2016 Posted by: Betsy Hughes 03/23/2016 Posted by: Dawn Stinchcomb Wade 03/22/2016 Posted by: Areida Shockley Foskey Brenda, Kenny and family.
