Ronald McGlaughlin

Ronald R. McGlaughlin, Jr, known as “Jr.” or “Mac” of Crapo, Maryland passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at University of Maryland Shore Medical System at Dorchester. He was 88.
Born on October 21, 1926 on Hoopers Island, Maryland; he was the son of the late Ronald R. McGlaughlin, Sr., and Mabel Aaron McGlaughlin.
He graduated from Hoopers Island School with the class of 1943. He married Petie Scott McGlaughlin and later married Lorraine Bennett McGlaughlin.
After his education, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Corpus Christi Texas from 1944-1947. After his service, he returned home to Hoopers Island and worked on the water and was well known for building boats for area waterman. His skills and abilities took him back to Texas where he continued his craft. Overtime, many area folks would ask Mac to build their next boat; all with no blueprints. He would ask them how long they wanted it to be; and he would get to work. He would turn out a finished boat in as little as 46 days.
He attended the United Peoples Church, and was a member of the Cambridge VFW post #7460, and the Cambridge American Legion.
He is survived by a son, Randy McGlaughlin and his wife, Jamie of Cambridge, His faithful companion, Darlene Robbins of Crapo, six grandchildren, Candy McGlaughlin, John Moore, Jodi Hughes, Scott McGlaughlin, Shane McGlaughlin and Stacie Dodson, a host of great-grandchildren, and one brother-in-law, Alton Murphy of Cambridge. In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael McGlaughlin, and three siblings, Blossom Flowers, Roberta Murphy and Billy McGlaughlin.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 2:00 at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, 308 High Street, Cambridge with the Reverend Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Spedden Seward Cemetery near Hudson. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 on Thursday.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Abbott, Glenn Ruark, Gary Ruark, Scott Ruark, Scott McGlaughlin, and Duane Dodson. Honorary pallbearers will be Timmy Cannon, Robert Cannon, Calvin Travers and everyone at Ruark Boat Works.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, 308 High Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 to help defray funeral costs.
