Ruby Moore

Ruby Jane Smith Moore, age 96, of Cambridge, MD died at her daughter and son-in-law’s home where she resided for the past two years early Thursday morning, October 28, 2010.

Born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1913 in Robbins, Dorchester County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Solomon Smith and Ida Burton Smith.

Mrs. Moore was raised in Robbins and was educated at Robbins Schoolhouse.

In 1933 she married Gordy C. Moore. He died in August of 1964.

Mrs. Moore’s home church was Bounds United Methodist Church in Robbins, however she has been a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Cambridge for several years where she was also a member of the Crescent Class.

Mrs. Moore had worked at Beta Shoe Store, a former downtown Cambridge business and also had been a nurse’s aide at the Mallard Bay Care Center, Cambridge.

Mrs. Moore was a homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of her home and family - especially her grandchildren. Her hobbies were sewing, cooking and traveling.

Surviving is her daughter Carmen T. Kuhn and her husband Kevin of Cambridge, MD; three grandchildren Lanai Etchison and her husband Adam of Vienna, MD, Carson Adams of Cambridge, MD, Jerol Don Moore, Jr. and wife Annette of Crapo, MD, three great-grandchildren Aiden Etchison, Paula Foxwell and her husband Scott, Pam Simmons and her husband Brad; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister Nina S. Travers of Woolford, MD; daughter-in-law Barbara Fitzhugh Moore of Cambridge, MD; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were two sons Eldridge Moore and Jerol D. Moore, Sr,; two brothers Allen Smith, Sr. and his wife Kathleen, Wilson Smith; two infant sisters Ruth and Bernette Smith; and a brother-in-law L. Edwin Travers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 1st at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Dr. William Davis, Pastor of Zion United Methodist Church, Cambridge. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Carson Adams, Jerol Don Moore, Jr., Allen Smith, Jr., Terry Groves, Tim Carpenter and Adam Etchison.
