Shirley Faye Hurley Lewis, 77 of Cambridge, passed away in Chestertown at her daughter’s home on February 11, 2012. She was born January 14, 1935 in Salem, MD and was the daughter of the late C. Leon & Lucy Willey Hurley.

She attended schools in Cambridge, having graduated from Cambridge High School in 1953. On September 6, 1953 she married John V. Lewis Jr. He passed away on May 15, 2009. Shirley worked at Cambridge Office Supply prior to entering into working for the Dorchester County School system as a Librarian Aide, retiring from Maple Elementary in 1996. Mrs. Lewis was a member of St. John’s Chapel in Cornersville where she served on the Bishops Committee and Episcopal Women’s Committee. She was also a member of The Dorchester Garden Club.

Survivors include her three daughters and son in law, Angela Jean Lewis of San Francisco, CA, Julie Lewis-Townsend & Ray Townsend of Chestertown, MD and Tammy Lewis Bramble of Cambridge and grandson Derek Lewis Bramble. She is also survived by a brother Gary Hurley and his wife Diane Hurley of Lee Valley, MD, a sister L. JoAnn Potter and Dr. William H. Potter of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, brothers and sisters in law, Diane and Warren Newcomb, James and Fran Lewis, Betty Jean Brennan and Charlotte Lewis and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Christopher Leon Hurley Jr., a brother in law, William Lewis Sr.and brother and sister in law Earl W and Thelma Rock.

Funeral services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, corner of Church & High Street, Cambridge, MD on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 2:00 PM with The Rev. Heather E. Cook officiating. Visitation will be held at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., 308 High Street, Cambridge, MD from 5:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Derek Lewis Bramble, Ray Townsend, Bill Rock, Bill Potter Jr., John Michael Lewis, and Dr. William H. Potter Sr. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Warren Newcomb, David Marshall Sr. and James F. Lewis.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Shirley to, Dorchester Garden Club Scholarship Fund, C/O Kathe Scanlon, 5705 Morris Neck Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or Hospice of Queen Anne’s, 255 Comet Road, Centreville, MD 21617.
