Thelma Anna Wroten, 103, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away on December 14, 2012
at the Chesapeake Woods Center where she had resided with the warm and affectionate care of the staff for the past few years.
Born on April 9, 1909 in Taylors Island, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late George Washington Hubbard and Lula Hubbard.
On December 22, 1931 she became the bride of Carl M. Wroten. Mr. Wroten passed away on February 11, 1970.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge.
For most of her working life she was employed by the Eastern Shore State Hospital Center in the housekeeping department.
Mrs. Wroten was very much a giving person, she had a big heart for all people. She loved sharing the holidays with her family and grandchildren. Thanksgiving was always very special to her and fond memories of the meals will be forever cherished by her family.
Surviving are two children Carl Matthew Wroten and his companion Sandy Martin of Cordova, MD. and Russell E. Wroten and his wife Regina (Jeanie) of East New Market, MD; daughter in law Mrs. George (Darlene) Wroten; four grandchildren Christina Thompson and her husband Tom of Cambridge, MD, April Freeman and her husband Jimmy, Sr. of Easton, MD, Donnie Wroten, Sr. of Vienna, MD, Ronnie Wroten and his wife Billie of Salem, MD; eight great-grandchildren Savana Thompson, Casey Wroten, Ronnie Lee Wroten, James Wilton Freeman III, Carlton Harrison Freeman, Caleigh Freeman, Calista Freeman and Donnie Wroten, Jr.; two step-grandchildren Miranda Ryan and Samantha Waters and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was a son George Harrison Wroten; two sisters Grace Ruark and Lena Keene; six brothers Melvin Hubbard, Woolford Hubbard, Calvin Hubbard, Ed Hubbard, Sewell Hubbard and Bill Hubbard; two grandchildren Bonnie Wroten and Tracie Wroten and step-grandchildren Guy Stinchcomer and Cindy Langrell.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2012 beginning 1 p.m. at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Christina Blake, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Dorchester Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Phil Rice, Bill Hubbard, Billy Hubbard, Nelson Marshall, Lee Wright, Ronnie Wroten, Donnie Wroten, Tim Cannon, Calvin Travers and Weldon Andrews.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Mrs. Wroten’s memory to the Recreation Dept of Chesapeake Woods Center, 521 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge or Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613
