WALLACE R. “POONIE” BRAMBLE

Wallace R. “Poonie” Bramble, age 85, of Cambridge, MD, died early Tuesday morning, December 30, 2008 at Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge. He had been a resident of Mallard Bay Care Center since October of this year.

Born at Bishops Head, Dorchester County, MD on March 10, 1923, he was the son of the late Reuben Bramble and Lola Jones Bramble.

Poonie, as he was known, graduated from Cambridge High School, Class of 1941.

A U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II, he was awarded the good conduct medal, purple heart medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with Arrowhead following an honorable discharge on December 11, 1945 with the rank of TEC 4. He received the purple heart from wounds he sustained from a mortar attack near Grenoble, France.

On June 2, 1956 he married the former Aileen Harding.

Poonie was a supervisor for the C&P Telephone Company for thirty eight years.

Poonie was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Cambridge, MD.

His memberships include the VFW Post 7460, American Legion Post 9, Disabled American Veterans and the Telephone Pioneers.

Poonie was known for his generosity and supported several local and national causes for the betterment of society. He loved being with his family and adored animals. Poonie was proud to be an American.

Surviving includes his wife of 52 years Aileen Harding Bramble of Cambridge, MD; two sons Richard R. Bramble and his wife Michelle and their children Garrett and Ashley of Salisbury, MD, Mark H. Bramble and his wife Debra and their children Gabrielle, Brian and Katie of Salisbury, MD. He is also survived by two nieces and a nephew that he considered as his children following the early deaths of his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Doris and David Bennett. His three remaining children are Tammy Wielgosz and her husband Pat and their children Patrick, David and Nicole, Nicole’s children Payton and Caleb, Sam Bennett and his daughter Sara, Sally Hastings and her husband Jaye and their children Kyle and Doris.; brother-in-law Arnold Brooks of Cambridge; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Thomas Brice and Lorraine Harding, Delores and Robert Bell; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were four sisters Imogene Potter, Marjorie Brooks, Alice Lloyd and Ruth Tolley.

The family will receive friends Sunday, January 4th at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. from 3 to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 5th at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Jay Hurley, Pastor. Burial will follow at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock, MD with Military Honors.
