Warren McWilliams, 81, of Rhodesdale Maryland passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with his family at his bedside.
Born August 10, 1932 he was the son of Warren Hooper and Dorothy McWilliams. He attended the local schools in the North Dorchester area. Upon graduation he attended Western Maryland College with the hope of becoming a dentist. His love of farming, however, called him back home to the fields of Rhodesdale.
In 1972 he married the former Jean Marshall. Together they established and operated Mac Farms Inc. They were always seen together and enjoyed over 41 years of marriage. Warren previously owned Shiloh Grain Company and McWilliams Cannery Inc.
Warren was active in his community. He was an original member of the Selective Service Advisory Board, served for years on the Dorchester County Planning and Zoning Board and was also past Chairman, over 50 years a member of Maryland Farm Bureau and Tidewater Farm Club, a member of the Scottish Rite and Boumi Shriners since 1957, Choptank Lodge #138, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Valley of Salisbury, member of the Advisory Board with the National Bank of Cambridge and a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving besides his wife Jean are daughters Donna Era, Debbie Wessells and Gail Shorter; grandson W. Hunter Wessells and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents are son-in-laws Joseph G. “Jody” Era, III and Dr. W. Craig Wessells.
A Masonic memorial service will be conducted by officers and members of Choptank Lodge #138 A.F. and A.M. on Monday, December 16, 2013 beginning 12:45 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Cambridge. A funeral service will follow with Rev. Jay Hurley officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. at the church. A private entombment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Ruark, James Ruark, Michael Ruark, Russell Stevens, Wesley Messick, Keith McMahhan, Dr. Hans Wilhelmsen and James Harper. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be former and present employees of Mac Farms Inc.
