William A. Reis, Jr., 86, of Elliott Island, Maryland passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Loch Raven Community Living Center, Baltimore.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland he was the son of the late Edna Dorthea Reibert Reis and William Alexander Reis, Sr.
On January 9, 1954 Bill married his sweetheart Shirley Joan at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Baltimore. Together they enjoyed over 61 years of marriage. Shirley passed away June 29, 2015 leaving a void in Bill’s life from which he never recovered.
Following his schooling Bill served his country as a proud member of the US Marines. After his return to Baltimore, Bill became a machinist for Crown Cork and Seal Company and eventually retired after over 34 years of service. A very spirited and humble man, his devotion to his faith, family and country was obvious to all. Bill and his wife enjoyed socializing and attending local community events during their life in Baltimore. He was a member of the Atonement Lutheran Church in Baltimore and a member of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary. Shirley and Bill had moved to Elliott with their daughter in 2007.
Surviving are daughters Deborah Shives and husband Don of Elliott Island, Pamela Reis of Baltimore: grandsons Ken Wallace and Chris Wallace both of Baltimore; granddaughters Jennifer Forsythe of Millersville and Kim Soto of Baltimore; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife was a daughter Terrie Wallace now in the arms of the Lord.
A viewing will be held for family and friends Wednesday evening, January 20, 2016 from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., 308 High Street, Cambridge, MD.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016 also at the funeral home beginning 12:30 p.m. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Pastor Newton Trimmer. Interment will follow at Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery with a committal service in the chapel beginning 2:00 p.m. with military honors.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of the family.
