Bobby Ray Dayton, age 79, of Cambridge, MD, died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Dorchester General Hospital.

Born on June 16, 1929 in Cambridge, MD, he was the son of the late Raymond Clarence Dayton and the late Ruby Warfield Dayton Hayward.

Mr. Dayton served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from May 18, 1951 to May 7, 1953.

Mr. Dayton worked as a patient attendant at the Eastern Shore State Hospital. He retired in 1983 after thirty years of employment.

Surviving is his wife Shirley Robbins Dayton of Cambridge, MD; five children Terry Wheatley and her husband Rick, Donna Airy and her husband Danny, Dee Travers and her husband Harrison, Tony Dayton and his wife Kelly, Nancy Cantville and her companion Mark Meekins; twelve grandchildren Eric Wheatley and his wife Megan, Adam Wheatley and his wife Kristin, B.J. Wheatley, Kyle Wheatley, Devin Wheatley, Jennifer Price and her companion Adam Parks, Patrick Airey, Courtney Airey, Brittany Travers, Mitchell Dayton, Chad Cantville and his companion Janelle Bradley and Chrissy Cantville; two great-granddaughters Natalie Wheatley and Phoebe Parks; three brothers Donald Dayton and his wife Annie of Salisbury, MD, Jimmy Dayton and his wife Marian of Milton, DE, Fred Dayton of Cambridge, MD; a sister Joyce Ann McAllister of Salisbury, MD; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friend Bonnie Foxwell.

Preceding him in death besides his parents was a daughter Mary Elizabeth Dayton; a sister Raye Ellen Moore; and granddaughter Marci Bee Dayton.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24th at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be the decedent’s cousin, Jimmy Dayton. Inurnment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Mr. Dayton’s memory to either of these two organizations that assist children with brain cancer which took the life of his granddaughter Marci, to the Marci Bee Dayton Memorial Fund, c/o Mid Shore Community Foundation, 102 Dover Street, Easton, MD 21601 or to the St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
