Catherine "Miss Kitty" Phillips

Catherine “Miss Kitty” Carroll Phillips, 96, of Fishing Creek, Maryland passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at her home with her loving son by her side.
Born in Denton, Maryland on July 14, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Adrien Leo Hansen, Sr. and Mattie Phillips Hansen.
Kitty attended the local schools and graduated from Hoopers Island High School with the Class of 1942 where she served as a class officer and played on the basketball team.
On May 7, 1949 she married John C. Phillips and together made their home in Fishing Creek. John died on October 16, 1994.
Kitty was employed as a Realtor and thoroughly enjoyed selling real estate. She did fingerprinting for the FBI and worked the waters with her husband during crabbing season.  She was a member of St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post #91.  In her spare time she enjoyed playing golf and was known to her family as being a great cook.  Kitty was a kind hearted woman and will be truly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Kitty is survived by her son John Curtis Phillips, Jr. and his companion Beth McMaster; granddaughter Cristen Phillips; loving great granddaughter Jordyn Alexis Matos and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was her brother Adrien Leo Hansen, Jr.
A visitation with family will be held on Thursday evening  August 12, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A. 308 High St., Cambridge, MD.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Golden Hill beginning 10 a.m.  Rev. Stephen Lonek will be the Celebrant.  Interment will follow the service at Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD.
Serving as pallbearers will be Harry Phillips, Mark Phillips, Reggie Phillips, Glen Phillips, Eddie Goff and Matt Aaron.  Honorary pallbearer will be Joe Phillips.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kitty’s name can be made to St Mary Star of the Sea Foundation, P.O. Box 187, Fishing Creek, MD 21634 or Alzheimer’s Association, Eastern Shore Chapter, 909 Progress Circle, Suite 400, Salisbury, MD 21804.
