Charles Foxwell, Sr

Charles “Charlie” Wright Foxwell, Sr., 92, of Cambridge, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge.

Born on May 31, 1924, he was the son of the late Baldwin and Hazel Kirwan Foxwell of Lakesville.

After attending the local schools and receiving his diploma from Crapo High School, Charlie joined the Army Air Corp and served his country for two years during WWII. He served in the Pacific Theatre before being honorably discharged in 1946.

While in the service he met and married Enid Willis. They were blessed with a son who together they raised. Enid died in 1989. In later years he married Alice Mae Jones. Alice died January 29, 2006.

Charlie owned and operated Foxwell's Garage, which was located where the Wesleyan Community Hall is today. He was a school bus driver in the 60's and loved by all the students. He was also very proud of being part of building Great Marsh. His last job before retirement was maintenance supervisor at the Social Service Building.

Charlie lived a colorful life style. His presence and voice would draw attention. As most people have a “bucket list” of things they would like to do, Charlie made sure he kept checking them off. He enjoyed watching NASCAR , sitting on his front porch, going to auctions and spending time with his family. Anyone who knew Charlie knew he loved his dog Blue and the two of them could always be seen riding the streets of Cambridge in his Toyota truck. He was known to love "fast cars" and "beautiful women". He had a big heart and would do anything for anyone. As his health declined the past few years he never lost his wit and humor. Charlie will be missed by his family and friends.

Surviving him are sons C.W. Bud Foxwell, Jr. (Debbie Bradford) of Cambridge, Bruce Banks of Fort Washington, MD, Guy Banks of Capital Heights, MD; grandchildren Alisha Salisbury, Shane Foxwell and Skyler Foxwell; great grandchildren Lucas, Karli and Tucker Salisbury; sisters Sue Murrell and Nancy Robinson. Also, Rosemary Banks the mother of Bruce and Guy Banks.

Preceding him in death besides his parents and wives was a granddaughter Tara Foxwell; sister Dot Asplen and his best friend, his dog Blue.

A funeral service with military honors will be held on Monday, June 27, 2016 beginning 1:00 p.m. at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Chapel, Hurlock, MD with Pastor Steve Bloodsworth officiating. Interment will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Charlie can be sent to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
