Cheryl King

Cheryl Lynne King, age 51, of Hurlock, MD, died at her home on Tuesday, September 7, 2010.

Born on January 24, 1959 in Portsmouth, VA, she was the daughter of the late Donald Whaley and Melva McKelvey Whaley.

After residing in Norfolk, VA her family moved to Delmar, DE. Cheryl was a graduate of Delmar High School, Class of 1977 and obtained her bachelor's degree from East Coast Bible College, Charlotte, NC.

On March 18, 1977 she married J. Edward King.

Cheryl had worked closely with her husband, the Pastor of Souls Harbor Church of God, Cambridge. She was the Minister of Music where she was the song and music leader, Christian Education Director and Children's Choir Director.

She had previously been a member of the Parkway Church of God in Salisbury, MD, her home church and had been a music teacher and kindergarten teacher at Parkway Christian Academy, also of Salisbury, MD.

Cheryl had also been the field hockey and girls basketball coach at North Dorchester High School.

Cheryl loved the beach and the water. She also took great pride in her flower gardening and was a thrill seeker, never willing to pass up a roller coaster ride.

Surviving besides her husband of 33 years, The Rev. J. Edward King of Hurlock, MD are two daughters Erin King Schantz and her husband Christopher of Baltimore, MD, Megan King of Hurlock, MD; four siblings Paula Donovan of Longneck, DE, Laren Whaley and his wife Linda of Rochester NH, Kirk Whaley of Las Vegas, NV, Karla Wynder and her husband John of Salisbury, MD

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 11th at Souls Harbor Church of God, 718 Peachblossom Ave., Cambridge, MD. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Ronald Martin, Church of God Regional Administrative Bishop of Delmarva & D.C. Private burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Cheryl's memory to Souls Harbor Church of God, 718 Peachbloosom Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613.
