Clarence Edward Smith (Smitty), of Denton, MD died on May 20, 2010 after a lengthy battle with cancer at the age of 70.
Born in Annapolis, MD on April 16, 1940, he was the son of the late Harry and Lillie Smith of Eastport, Annapolis MD.
Clarence graduated from Annapolis High School, Class of 1958. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960 through 1964, and received an honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant. In 1964, he joined the Anne Arundel County Police Department, Southern District. He retired in 1994 as a Lieutenant, specializing in Drug Enforcement. After living the majority of his life in Annapolis, MD, and raising his family in Hillsmere Shores, he retired in Denton, MD.
Mr. Smith enjoyed his retirement at Little Creek Farm with his lovely bride of 45 years, the former Marie Catherine Compton. He took pleasure in gardening, bird watching, caring for several cats & dogs and enjoying many crab feasts with family and friends.
Clarence is survived by his loving wife, Marie (Rea), his brother, Robert Smith, his children, Gary and Cindy Dukes, Lisa and Tom Rose, Donald Smith, Leah and Eddie Christenson, and grandchildren, Devon, Katelyn, Amber, Rachel and Justin.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Zachary L. Dukes, In-Laws, George and Amelia Compton, and his brother, Harry Smith.
Smitty’s final request was to be cremated and that his services are held privately.
Memorial offerings may be made in Smitty’s memory to Caroline Home for Hospice, 613 S. Fifth Ave., Denton, MD 21629.
