Eleanor D'Adamo

Eleanor Tubman D'Adamo, a longtime resident of Dorchester County, died of natural causes at Chesapeake Woods Center on March 21, 2018. Mrs. D'Adamo had celebrated her 95th birthday this past October. She was raised on a farm outside of Secretary, Maryland and was a 1939 graduate of Hurlock High School. She moved to Baltimore during World War II and worked as an accounting clerk for Montgomery Ward. She also volunteered as a nurse's aide at St. Joseph Hospital, caring for many wounded soldiers. She met her future husband, Phil D'Adamo, on a blind date and they were married after he returned from the service in 1946. Mrs. D'Adamo and her husband lived in Dover, Delaware; Easton, Maryland and Salisbury, Maryland as Mr. D'Adamo was establishing his career as a radio disc jockey. They settled in Shiloh, Maryland in 1953 and spent the rest of their lives together in Shiloh. Mrs. D'Adamo was a housewife until her 3 children started school and then worked for the North Dorchester News and finally for the Dorchester County School System from which she retired as Assistant Librarian at North Dorchester Middle School after 20 years of service with the school system. Mrs. D'Adamo loved to travel and had visited Europe three times as well as various locations in the United States and the Caribbean. She and her husband attended many conventions of the Army Air Force Night Fighters, with whom Mr. D'Adamo served during World War II, and also the National Association of Counties as representatives of the Dorchester County Commissioners for which Mr. D'Adamo served for 12 years. Mrs. D'Adamo was a lifelong member of the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary where she was baptized and married. She served on the church's sodality and as a lector. Mrs. D'Adamo was also a founding member of the American Legion Post 143 Auxiliary and attended many meetings and functions sponsored by the Auxiliary. Mrs. D'Adamo was an avid reader and kept the Hurlock Library staff busy searching for large print books – her favorites were romance and historical novels. Mrs. D'Adamo was very proud of her 3 children and 6 grandchildren and had just become a great grandmother for the 3rd time in December. She was planning to attend the wedding of one of her grandsons in May when the Lord decided it was time for her to join Him and her dear deceased family members in her heavenly reward. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Phillis and Giuseppe Anoia, her son Richard and daughter-in-law Lenore D'Adamo, six grandsons, Joe, Christopher, Neil, Jon, Tim, and Patrick D'Adamo and 3 great grandchildren. Her son Timothy, passed away in 1987. The family would like to thank all of Mrs. D'Adamo's friends who visited her in the nursing home and also the staff of Chesapeake Woods who helped make her time there comfortable. The family would especially like to thank Paula Abey, who has been Mrs. D'Adamo's caregiver, companion, and friend for the past 6 years.
