Elmira H. “Mickey" Dail, 86, of the Neck District, Cambridge, died on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge.
Born on September 5, 1926 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late George Moulton Hoswell and Grace Ella Cole Hoswell.
She was a graduate of Western High School, Baltimore, MD. On April 4, 1944 she married R. Melvin Dail. Mr. Dail passed away on December 8, 2005.
Mrs. Dail had worked at Western Electric in Baltimore, Airpax and Western Publishing in Cambridge.
She was a devoted member of Spedden United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was past president of the United Methodist Women of the Church.
Mrs. Dail was a former member of the Cambridge Senior Homemakers Club, Secretary to the County Council of Extension Homemakers, 4H Club Leader, member of the Neck District Volunteer Fire Company, and a volunteer with the Dorchester Hospice Foundation from its inception in 1983 to 1995.
In recent years “Mickey” enjoyed swimming at the YMCA as part of a group known as the “Baywatch Hopefuls”. These friends shared many laughs and trips to the donut shop. Mickey also spent many hours visiting nursing home patients.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Baxter and her husband Michael of Linkwood and Beverly Elliott and her husband Davis of Cambridge, a sister Irma Galford of Lincoln, DE., a granddaughter Jennifer Elliott Truby and her husband Peter, great grandson Carter Truby, three step-grandsons Davis Elliott, Jr., William Elliott, Duane Elliott and their families and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents and husband were a sister Dorothy Bennett and a brother James G. Hoswell.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge, beginning 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2012. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Pam Bockart officiating.
A memorial service will be held at Spedden U.M. Church in the Neck District on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at 2 p.m.
