Emma Harvey Cannon, 96, of Cambridge, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge, MD.
Born July 5, 1916 near East New Market, she was the daughter of the late William “Will” and Eva Gore Storr Harvey.
Emma attended school in East New Market. After her marriage to Leonard Cannon she moved to Cambridge. Mr. Cannon passed away in 1984. “Miss Emma” as she was known, operated Emma’s Beauty Salon, opening her shop in 1952 on Choptank Avenue and continued on after the family bought the house from Captain Orville Parks, the owner of the skipjack “Rosie Parks” until retiring in the year 2000.
Emma attended Grace United Methodist Church when health permitted and was proud of her 50 yr. pin.
Surviving Emma is her daughter Carol Ann Daffin and husband Maurice of Cambridge, MD; granddaughter Donna Abbott of Berlin, MD; great grandson Ryan Abbott and wife Melissa of Annapolis, MD.
Preceding her in death were five sisters and two brothers. Jenny H. Tower, Mary H. Dail, Evelyn H. Cooper, Martha H. Shores, Louise H. Yeagley, Francis Harvey and William Harvey.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, October 15, 2012 beginning 11 a.m. at East New Market Cemetery, East New Market, MD. Officiating will be Pastor Christina Blake.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Emma may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race St. Cambridge, MD 21613.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge, MD.
