Emma H. Matthews, age 104, of Cambridge, MD, died Wednesday morning, January 2, 2008 at Methodist Manor House, Seaford, DE.
Born on July 8, 1903 in Vienna, MD, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Higgins and Mary Webb Higgins.
She had graduated from area schools and attended St. Mary’s College.
On June 15, 1926 she married Phillip B. Matthews, a prominent Cambridge native and banker. Mr. Matthews died on November 4, 1976 and then there afterwards she became a resident of the Methodist Manor House.
Mrs. Matthews had been a member of Zion United Methodist Church since November 19, 1950.
While her health allowed, Mrs. Matthews enjoyed playing bridge.
Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were two brothers Edwin Higgins and Frank Higgins and a sister Louise Keller.
A brief funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4th at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., where refreshments will follow. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Samuel McWilliams. Private burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Zion United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 612 Locust St., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Methodist Manor House Memorial Fund, 1001 Middleford Rd., Seaford, DE 19973
