Fr. Walter Reuschling

Fr. Walter E. Reuschling, 86, of Cambridge, MD passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore with his family by his side.

Born July 24, 1931 in Baltimore, he was a son of the late Ida Laura and Walter Lester Reuschling. After attending Baltimore public schools, he served his country with the U.S. Army from 1952 thru 1954 being honorably discharged of the rank of Corporal. He continued with the Civil Air Patrol in Carroll County.

On April 25, 1957 Fr. Reuschling married the former Naomi Kathryn Wett. They enjoyed nearly 61 years of marriage together.

Fr. Reuschling dedicated his life to the Lord and pursued his career as clergy. He attended Catonsville Community College, Western Maryland College, Towson University, St. Mary’s Ecumenical Institute, Loyal Graduate School, Capital University and John Hopkins obtaining a Master’s Degree. He taught with the Baltimore City school system from 1957 – 1963 and Baltimore County school system from 1963 – 1984 and later at the Talmudical Academy.

For over 45 years, Fr. Reuschling served the people of Maryland and mostly the Delmarva area as a cleric. He had served at St. George’s Chapel, Manchester; Ascension Prince of Peace, Randallstown; St. Paul’s by the Sea, Ocean City; St. Mary the Virgin, Pocomoke; St. Paul’s, Vermont; St. Andrews, Princess Anne; Holy Spirit, Ocean City; All Hallows, Snow Hill, St. John’s, Cornersville, Christ Church, Cambridge; Talmudical Academy, Baltimore City; St. Paul’s, Georgetown, DE and Delmarva Ecumenical Service. Fr. Reuschling and his wife had made their home in Cambridge since 2001.

A caring and humble man, Fr. Reuschling left his mark on all who knew him. His commitment to his country, his family and his Lord will serve as a standard for others to follow.

Surviving is his wife Kathryn; daughter Karen Griesmyer and husband Robert of Westminster; sons Glen Reuschling and wife Mary Anne of Annapolis, David Han of Ashburn, VA; brother Earle Reuschling; sister Evelyn McManus; grandchildren Eric Reuschling, Michael Reuschling, Robert Griesmyer III, Alex Reuschling, Abigail Reuschling, Anna Han, Madeleine Han and Tessa Han.

Preceding him in death besides his parents is a brother Raymond Leroy Reuschling and brother-in-law John F. Wett

A visitation with family will be held Sunday, January, 28, 2018 at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge from 3 till 5 p.m.

A funeral service will be held Monday, January 29, 2018 beginning 1 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with The Rt. Rev. Santosh “San” Marray Bishop, Diocese of Easton officiating.

Military honors will follow at committal service in the adjoining cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Reuschling, Michael Reuschling, Alex Reuschling, Rob Griesmyer, Greg Leverage and Tony Chiavacci.
