Grace Westbrook

Grace May Westbrook, 101, of Cambridge, Maryland, died on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Mallard Bay Care Center.
Born on August 6, 1916 in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Larry Westbrook and Caroline Fauth Westbrook.
Ms. Westbrook was the first female from Dorchester County to enlist into the United States Marine Corp. She served four years during World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. After the war, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she was employed by National Geographic as a transcript writer until she retired.
Surviving her are niece Jessie Causey Bradley, nephew Carlie Westbrook, and many great nieces and great nephews. Preceding her in death besides her parents are siblings Elesa Westbrook Schuyler, William “Sonny” Westbrook, Lydia Jane Westbrook Nichols, “Baby” Carrie Westbrook and “Baby” Phyllis Westbrook.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Mallard Bay (of Cambridge) and Heartland House (Grasonville) for the many years of outstanding care given to her during her lengthy stay. Also, thanks to the VFW for their support as well.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, 308 High St., Cambridge, beginning 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Larry Wroten officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00-10:30 prior to the service. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Cambridge with military honors.
Serving as pallbearers will be Aaron Harman, Craig Harman, Philip Nichols, Lake Nichols, and Brandon Harman.
