Harold Willey

Harold Lloyd Willey, 93, of Griffith Neck passed away peacefully on August 14, 2017 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Born July 21, 1924 to Henry Lloyd and Nora Willey, Harold lived his entire life on the family farm. He considered himself blessed to have lived with members of seven generations of his family. Harold attended the local schools in Dorchester County. Harold was a lifelong farmer. He worked part time as a hunting guide, drove produce trucks for other farmers and in the winter months worked for Phillips Oil Company. In the mid-1960s, he began to work at the Eastern Shore Rendering Company along with his wife, the former Lorraine Bradshaw, whom he married in June 1944. For the remainder of his working years, he balanced both careers, never straying far from his family’s farm.

Harold was very active and well known in his community. He didn’t have to know you to stop and talk with you. Harold enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. A son of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, he enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, fishing, gardening, dancing, motorcycles, reading and telling jokes and stories. His favorite book was “It Happened in Dorchester” which included a story about the Griffith House located, on the family farm.

He was a 32nd degree member of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M.., member of the Scottish Rite and Boumi Shriners, Tall Cedars, BPO Elks Lodge #1272, Cambridge Moose Lodge #1211, Bucktown Church and a honorary member of the Cambridge Rescue Fire Dept..

Surviving is his son Richard Willey of East New Market; grandsons Chuck (Bonnie) Wright of Hudson, Bryan Willey of Salisbury; granddaughters Betsy (CJ) Jackson of Griffith Neck, Megan Brad) Brown of Chattanooga, TN; great-grandson Andrew Brooks; great-granddaughters Katie Wright, Sierra Wright and Abby Jackson; great-great grandson Donnie Ross and Landon Dold and many cousins, nieces and nephews and his trusty dog Jazz.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents H. Lloyd and Nora Willey, wife Lorraine; daughter Darlene Kotulich; brother Norval “Stumpy” Willey and sister Mildred “Mickey” Bennett.
