Helen M. Rizzo, 81, of Church Creek, Maryland, died on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at her home with her loving husband Salvator “Sam” and their two sons at her side.
Born on March 7, 1935 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was a daughter of the late Mary and Nicola Vento.
She attended the local schools in Pittsburgh and graduated from George Westinghouse High School with the class of 1953.
On July 1, 1961 Helen married Salvator J. Rizzo and together raised two sons. After moving from Columbia, Maryland in 1986, they made their home in Church Creek. Helen and Sam recently celebrated their 54th Wedding Anniversary.
Helen was a dedicated member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the Church Creek Volunteer Fire Company.
She was known for helping people in need and supporting her local community. Family was most important to her and she loved talking about her grandchildren. When it came to relaxing, Helen could be found feeding the ducks and enjoying the nature of our earth.
She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving Helen is her husband Sam; two sons Paul A. Rizzo and wife Jana of Columbia, MD, Robert N. Rizzo and wife Bianca of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren Jessica, Emily, Spencer and Sam Rizzo; a sister Teresa Vento; a brother Nick Vento and wife Pat of Pittsburgh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 beginning 12 noon at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Golden Hill, Maryland with Celebrant William Lawler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:30 to 12:00 noon.
Serving as pallbearers will be Helen’s family.
