Irene Lidard Renkwitz, 92, a devoted mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday evening, October 4, 2012 at Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge, MD.
Born on October 29, 1919 in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Byrtle Linthicum and C. Russell Lidard.
After graduating from Cambridge High School in 1936 Irene began working as a secretary at Phillips Packing Company and continued working there for over 30 years. Later she worked in Human Resources at Dorchester General Hospital where she retired on June 26, 1996 at age 77 with more than 21 years of service.
In 1942, Irene met and married Adolph (Art) Renkwitz from Staten Island, New York, who came to Cambridge to play baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals farm system. Mr. Renkwitz passed away on July 27, 1968. Irene was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Cambridge Yacht Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Mrs. Renkwitz is survived by a son Arthur Renkwitz, Sr. and wife Evelyn of Cambridge; a daughter Kim Renkwitz Elliott and husband Winford of Cambridge; grandsons, Art Renkwitz, Jr. and wife Jane of Baltimore, Winford Elliott, Jr. of Cambridge; a granddaughter Laura Elliott of Cambridge; and a great granddaughter Josie Renkwitz of Baltimore.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 7, 2012 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home P.A., Cambridge. A private graveside service will be held on Monday at Dorchester Memorial Park.
Memorial offerings may be made in Mrs. Renkwitz’s memory to Zion United Methodist Church, 612 Locust St, Cambridge, MD 21613.
