Janice E. Hughes, 74, of Easton, Maryland passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, December 14, 2017 at Heartfields of Easton.
She was the wife of the late Kenneth "Scotty" Hughes, Sr. who passed away September 5, 2012.
She was born in Easton, MD, the daughter of the late Raymond "Steve" Webster and Audrey Lee Webster. She was raised in Secretary, MD and was a graduate of North Dorchester High School.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelly Hughes Jones and her husband, Gordy E. (Jody) Jones, Jr of Church Creek. Three grandchildren, Justin C. Wheatley and his companion Kristen Smith, S. Patrick Hughes, and Janna Jones Elliott and her husband Phillip, all of Cambridge; as well as 4 great grand children; and her extended and loving family at Heartfields Assisted Living. Also surviving are her sister in law and step mother in law, Ellen Borga and Ruth Ann Hughes of Anderson, SC, and a cousin, Claudia Chambers of Gaylord, MI.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Dale Benjamin Wheatley.
Janice was employed for many years in quality control for local food and poultry processors and most recently worked along side her husband as property manager for Woolford Creek Farm in Madison, MD until her retirement in 2010. She enjoyed shopping, eating out, and visiting Ocean City. She was a former member of Grand National Waterfowl Association, Cambridge Elks, and Cambridge Yacht Club.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 22,2017 beginning 1 p.m. at the Cambridge Elks Lodge #1272, 5464 Elks Lodge Road, Cambridge, MD.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to either Grand National Waterfowl Scholarship Fund, P.O Box 106, Cambridge, MD or Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
