Jean A. Newcomb, 74, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away Sunday evening, December 20, 2015 at Mallard Bay Care Center, Cambridge with her family by her side.
Born June 28, 1941 at Cambridge Hospital, she was a daughter of the late Ugennia Brannock and Joseph Ralph Wallace and step-daughter of Mae Wallace. Jean was raised by her grandmother Alvarde Gore Brannock till the age of 14 when she then went to live with her father and step-mother in Toddville, Maryland.
She graduated from South Dorchester High School with the class of 1960. After graduating she worked as a crab picker for Meredith and Meredith Seafood and later was a homemaker. She was blessed with a beautiful baby boy named William Joseph (Joey) Newcomb.
Jean had been a resident at Mallard Bay Care Center for the past 12 years and referred to it as her home. She was known by the staff as “Jeannie Beannie”. When she was able, Jean enjoyed making crafts and playing bingo with the other residents.
Surviving her is a daughter-in-law Sherri Newcomb-McNally of Newark, DE; four grandchildren Jessica Bell Newcomb of Elkton, MD, Lyle Richard Newcomb, William Clayton Newcomb and Ian Thomas Newcomb of Newark, DE; three great grandchildren Wm. “LB” Francis Jones V, Jordon Jones and Blake Jones of Elkton, MD; sister Darlene Moore of Hurlock, MD and step-sister Kay Robinson of Chesapeake Woods, Cambridge, MD and a very special niece Patsy A. Bennett of Cambridge, MD and her husband Daniel Martinek.
Preceding her in death besides her parents, step-mother and grandparents was her son Wm. Joseph “Joey” Newcomb.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2015 beginning 1 p.m. at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., 308 High Street, Cambridge, MD with Captain Aaron Abran officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Bethlehem Brick Church Cemetery in Taylors Island.
Pallbearers will be Eric Moore, Lewis Bennett, Jr., Gordon Stubbs, Lyle R. Newcomb and William C. Newcomb.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jean’s name can be sent to Signature Healthcare at Mallard Bay Activities, 520 Glenburn Avenue, Cambridge, MD 21613.
