John A. Blake, 65, of Hoopersville, Maryland previously of Edgewater, Maryland passed away on Wednesday, April, 19, 2023 at his home with his loving family and friend, bartender Jessica Noble by his side.

 

Born on August 15, 1957 he was the son of the late Dora and Gordon Blake.

 

On June 20, 1998 John married the former Kathleen Beavers and this June they would have celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary.  Throughout their time together they were not only a couple, they were a team.  If Johnny was volunteering, Kathy was usually by his side.  They raised their kids and worked hard.  John was proud of his “Blakey Bunch”.

 

Johnny was a caring and fun-loving person.  He loved his family and friends deeply and always put his family first.  He has lived on Hoopers Island since 1996 and loved the closeness of the community and chose to pass away at home.

 

He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was a firm believer in giving back.  Throughout the years he supported Girl and Boy Scouts, Hoopers and Hosier Churches, Hoopers Island Fire Co., Church Creek Fire Co., Elks #1272, MD ABATE Mid Shore Chapter Toy Runs, South Dorchester and Open Bible Schools and many other charitable causes.

 

Johnny’s hobbies included riding his motorcycle, attending car and motorcycle shows, watching fox news, hanging out with friends and family, fishing, crabbing, hunting and going to turkey shoots.  He loved playing his bass guitar and listening to metal music. 

 

He belonged to several organizations: Iron Riders Motorcycle Club- Annapolis Chapter, Elks Lodge #1272, Hoopers Island Fire Company from 2004-2019, FF-2004, Brush Captain 51-2 from 2006-2018, EMT-B 2005-2022, Trustee 3 terms 2008-2010, 2014-2016 and 2017- 2019., Maryland ABATE-Mid- Shore Chapter and St. Mary’s Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church.

 

Johnny was employed by the Bradford House through 2022.  He also worked for Chesapeake Wood products and Acme Plumbing and Heating through 2021, Rippon’s Brothers Seafood 1996-2020.  Prior to the above he was self-employed as a carpenter and plumber.

 

Surviving Johnny is his wife Kathy;  children Richard Warnke (Courtney), Jeremiah Blake (Ashley), Michelle Nicholas (Brian), Matthew Blake (Karla), Carli Blake (Jacko) and Samantha Blake; grandchildren Gabby Blake, Jackson Blake, Sophia Blake, Serenity Blake, Brielle Nicholas, Raelynn Blake, Ezekiel Meja, Hayden Reedy, Liam Blake, Tristan Warnke, Lorelia Warnke, Mian Nicholas, Silas Reedy and new baby Warnke due in May; siblings Mike Blake (Sandy), Bernie Blake, Paul Blake (Debbie), Lewis Blake, Alma Moritz (Dave), Dottie Bennett, Margaret Miller (Charlie) and Carol Mahon Blake; best friends Sean “Razor” Rodrigues, Greg leverage, Richy Knox and Kim James.

 

Preceding him in death besides his parents was an older brother Jerry, his sister Joan, his first wife Carol and his brother Gordon, Jr.

 

Johnny worked hard and played harder.  A stranger was a friend he had not yet met.  He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023 beginning 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church, 1515 Glasgow Street, Cambridge, MD with Rev. Stephen Lonek officiating.  Entombment will follow the service in the adjoining church cemetery.

 

Flowers will be accepted and memorial contributions in Johnny’s name can be sent to St. Mary’s Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church, 2000 Hambrooks Blvd., Cambridge, MD 21613.
