Karl John "Jack" Stahre passed away Saturday, January 14 at UMMC in Baltimore surrounded by his family.

 

Jack was born February 20, 1932 in Salisbury, MD to the late Karl and Naomi (Garris) Stahre.  He grew up on Maryland's Eastern Shore, and graduated from Delmar High School in 1950.  Following graduation, he joined the US Navy and served as an Electrician's Mate during the Korean War, most notably on the USS Midway in the Mediterranean Sea.

 

He started his career with Bell Telephone after the Navy with Diamond State Telephone in southern Delaware as a lineman.  He retired as a Data/Systems consultant in 1988.

 

Following his retirement, the family moved to Cambridge, MD in 1988, where he resided the rest of his life.  Once moving here, he worked at several small businesses downtown, including the MAC Center and Pleasant Day Adult Daycare, retiring in 1994 from Channel Marker in Easton.  For two terms, he served as the Chief Financial Officer for American Legion Post #91, then worked in the Pro Shop at the Cambridge Country Club, retiring again in 2007.

 

He married his wife Jane MacDuff on June 3, 1978 in Dover, DE.  Following retirement, they enjoyed travelling and visiting family together.

 

Jack was an avid golfer and woodworker.  He also enjoyed photography and music, playing harmonica and when young, violin.  He was a charter member of the Wicomico Chess Club with his father and brother in 1949.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother Paul Stahre (Harriet); his five children:  Eric Stahre (Tammi), Eileen Dioguardo (Paul), Brian Stahre (Tracie), Denise Stahre, and Jason Stahre(Sarah); Twelve grandchildren:  Jonathan (Lindsey), Katie (Trevor), Ariana, Maria, Ella, Jake, Alex, Grace, Andrea (Hunter), Jack, Henry, and Lucy; one great-grandson:  Wyatt; a sister-in-law:  Jane MacDuff; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Hearn, two brothers-in-law:  Irvin "Jimmy" Hearn and George MacDuff; and two nieces:  Janice Peed and Melinda MacDuff.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, Cambridge beginning 12:00 pm.  A committal service will begin at 2:00 pm. at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery Chapel with Military Honors.
