Leslie Hubbard

Leslie Morrison "Morrie" Hubbard, 62, of Cambridge passed away Friday, July 22, 2016 at UMSMC at Dorchester.

Born January 15, 1954, Morrie was the son of the late Mary Pauline Stairs and Charles Morrison "Tex" Hubbard. He attended the local schools in Cambridge. Enlisting in the US Air Force, Morrie proudly served his country with honor. He was honorably discharged in December 1973.

Returning to Cambridge Morrie began dating and then marrying his sweetheart, the former Vickie Wheatley. Together they were blessed with a son and enjoyed 41 years of marriage.

For most of his working career he was a welder. He had worked at Cambridge Scientific, Bev Tran, Custom Welding and Fabrication and Camtec. Prior to his retirement due to his health, he was employed with the Municipal Utilities Commission.

Morrie always enjoyed fast cars. He always thought he should have been a race car driver. He had a big caring heart for people and animals as well. He loved children and always tried to help any in need. He couldn't stand to see animals abused or lacking food. Often you would see him taking his dogs for a ride in the car, six dog heads sticking out the windows enjoying the ride.

His green thumb for growing beautiful flower gardens was something passed on to him from his mother. He was known in his neighborhood for his elaborate Christmas light displays. His would be the first up and last down each year.

Morrie loved his wife; he was so proud of his son and cherished his grandchildren. He was a patriot to his country. He was a friend to all, more like a brother to his closest friends and had found the peace and happiness with his Lord. He will be missed by many but never forgotten.

Surviving is his wife Vickie; son Kevin F. Hubbard and wife Lisa of Michigan; grandchildren Skye and Logan Hubbard; brother Owen Hughes and wife Geraldine; sisters Phyllis Flowers, Carol Collins and husband Elwin; brother in laws Edward Wheatley, Jr. and William “Billy” Wheatley; sister in laws Cindy Kukta, Debbie Lowe and Christine Greene; special long time friends Michael Rossy, Alan Simmons and Gary Newcomb along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Friday, July 29, 2016 beginning 12:30 pm at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A. with Pastor Jack Diehl officiating.

The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery with military honors.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jordan Rossy, Michael Rossy, Alan Simmons, Eddie Wheatley, Jr., William Wheatley and Gary Newcomb.
