Lillian Virginia Bayliss Holliday, 93, formerly of Wingate, Maryland passed away peacefully Friday, May 9, 2014 at Chesapeake Woods Center with her son and daughter by her side.

She was born in Toddville, Maryland to the late Bertram B. Bayliss and Viola Willey Bayliss on March 15, 1921. She was the last surviving member of the Class of 1937 at Crapo High School. She graduated second in her class of seven girls and one boy. After graduation, she moved to Wilmington, Delaware and worked at Bancroft Mills and attended night school. On February 15, 1946, she was married to Andrew G. Holliday, Sr., at Mt. Salem Church in Wilmington by Rev. Frank A. Baker. They lived most of their married life in Wingate. He died on December 18, 1986.

She had worked for J.M. Clayton, George O. Powley and Tideland Seafood Companies. She also did sewing and was a self-taught hairdresser. She was very active in local churches, WSCS, River’s Edge Homemaker’s Club, and the fire company functions. In her later years, she was a caregiver for numerous family members. While her health was good, she visited local folks in the nursing homes. She enjoyed playing word games and dominos.

She is survived by a son, Andrew G. Holliday, Jr., (Carolyn Mowbray) and a daughter, Dale A. Maginnis (Tim); one grandson, Brian A. Holliday (Melanie Varner); two great-grandchildren, Alyssa D. Holliday and Colton A. Holliday; two step great-grandsons, Matthew and Marcus Tolley, and a beloved granddog Katie.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 beginning 1 p.m. at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. till the service begins. Officiating will be Rev. Dan E. Walker, Sr. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Lamont Holliday, John Wayne Holliday, Tim Maginnis, Phil Murphy, Bruce Meekins, and Martin Tolley.
