Louis Powell Robbins

Louis Powell Robbins, 89, passed away on Tuesday, October 28 at his daughter‘s residence, surrounded by close friends and family.

Louis was born September 11, 1936 in Salisbury Maryland to Louis B. and Elinor Robbins. Louis spent his childhood between Snow Hill, Maryland and Crapo, MD. Louis was very proud of his maternal grandparents as they owned and operated the first pharmacy in Snow Hill, Maryland, both being licensed pharmacists. Summers would be spent with his maternal grandparents and mother, soaking up sun and salt water down to public landing. Louis’ mother also pursued the medical field, and became the first group of nurses to graduate from a college upstate New York. During the winter, you wouldn’t find Lou far from his father during trapping and hunting season. Louis’ father and paternal grandfather both owned numerous tomato canneries across the state of Maryland. Louis ultimately followed in both their footsteps.

Louis attended McDonough military school in Baltimore through his primary years, and later went on to graduate from the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s in agriculture.

Louis married Diana Lynn Robbins on November 1, 1980. Not only was she the love of his life, but an ally and advocate in all of his endeavors. They were blessed with two daughters, Mary Beth, and Nicole.

Louis worked as a canning machinist for Continental Can and Crown Cork & Seal up and down the east coast. He was known for his quick thinking and meticulous hand work. There wasn’t a canning machine he couldn’t fix.

He was known for being the little man with a cigar in his mouth who never met a stranger a day in his life. But if you were to ask him about his true passions, he wouldn’t hesitate to tell you that his family meant everything to him. From taking his grandson’s fishing and crabbing off of his aluminum boat, making sure his daughters always had money in their pockets, to always providing a place to call home at the end of the day.

Louis is survived by his daughters, Mary Beth (John) D’Amico, Nicole (Steve) Hudson; three grandchildren, Tully (Alexis) Wise, Oakley (Abby) Wise, and John “Nico” D’Amico.

Louis is preceded in death by his wife, Diana, and his son Robbie.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 beginning 11 a.m. at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, 308 High St., Cambridge, MD. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge.

Serving as pallbearers will be Stephen Hudson, John D’Amico, John “Nico” D’Amico, Tully Wise, Oakley Wise and Todd Bradley.
