Martha M. Habermann, age 89, of Fishing Creek passed away surrounded by her family on November 20, 2021. Martha was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She is survived by her husband Joseph, of 70 years, four children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Born on October 11, 1932 in the City of New York, New York, she moved to Fishing Creek, MD in the 1990s.

She was involved in book and sewing clubs, as well as numerous community activities. She was an avid reader possessing an encyclopedia knowledge of history. She traveled throughout the United States and 22 countries.

Martha was an independent, natural born leader and accomplished much in her life. Most recently she served on various committees of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church to include the Pastoral Care, Finance, Planning, and Historical. Martha was also a trustee of the South Dorchester Folk Museum, member of the Dorchester Center for Arts and Dorchester Historical Society.

During her long professional career, she was the owner and operator of two large continuing care facilities and won many accolades. In 1983, she was recognized as the New York State Administrator of the Year by the American College of Health Care Administrators. Her professional memberships included the New York State Academy of Science, American College of Health Administrators, and American Geriatrics Society. She served as a congressional key member of President Clinton’s 1993-1994 Health Care Reform task force.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
