Nancy M. Spicer, 86, of Golden Hill passed away peacefully Friday, August 26, 2016 at Mallard Bay Care Center, Cambridge with her entire loving family by her side.

Born in Cambridge September 14, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Nanette Luthy and Milton Malkus, Sr. Nancy grew up on the family farm. As a young girl she became involved with the 4-H youth organization and continued on through the All Star Advanced 4-H. After graduating from Cambridge High School she continued her education and became a Registered Nurse. During her forty plus years of nursing she had worked with the Cambridge Hospital, State Hospital, Dorchester County Health Dept. and the office of Dr. Lewis Burdette.

Nancy was always a very crafty person with her hands. She was an excellent seamstress and also enjoyed knitting. Nancy was a master at refurbishing furniture. She would strip the coatings with her hands, repair as needed and then refinish it. She had learned the art of re-caning chair seats and backs and had done many for herself and her friends. She and her husband Bill were lifetime members of Immanuel United Church of Christ.

One of Nancy’s favorite past times was reading, She normally would always read before bed. Nancy loved watching the hundreds of hummingbirds at the feeders she supplied for them. Gardening was in her blood and she was blessed with a green thumb. Nancy was a natural care giver. She found the greatest pleasure in caring for people, whether they be her husband, family, friends or a complete stranger. She was loved by all and will be missed by many.

Surviving is her husband of 66 years, William L. “Bill” Spicer; daughter Janet Lewis and husband Lemuel; son Thomas “Tommy” Spicer and wife Debby; brother Milton “Bootsie” Malkus, Jr.; grandchildren A. Jestina L. Bloodsworth and husband Joe, Stephen Lewis, Jr. and wife Jeanne, T W Spicer and wife Marcia, Brooks Spicer, Tammy Shockley, Ryan Shockley and wife Hillary; along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Preceding her in death besides her parents were her brothers Kenneth Malkus, Calvin Malkus and Theodore “Ted” Malkus and sister Virginia Asmussen.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2016 beginning 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Cambridge. Officiating will be Rev. Dale Krotee. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am till the start of the service. Interment will follow at Old Trinity Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be T W Spicer, Joey Bloodsworth, Stephen Lewis, Kyle Rubenkoning, Pat Malkus and Ryan Shockley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Milton “Bootsie” Malkus, Sonny Malkus, Bill Malkus, Keith Malkus, Chuck Hanson and Lin Spicer.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Immanuel United Church of Christ, 5401 White Hall Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
