Nora Dawson

Nora Lee Dawson, age 86, of Cambridge passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge, surrounded by her family.
She was born September 7, 1924 in Toddville, MD, the daughter of Levin and Leah Todd Jones Fitzhugh.
Nora Lee attended school in lower Dorchester County. On December 10, 1940, she married Shannon Dawson of Bishops Head, a well-known boat builder, who passed away December 21, 1973.
Mrs. Dawson cherished her family, and as a young woman was always busy in her home—painting, wallpapering, and being a very special mother. She was consistently involved in her church, serving as treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and Sunday School Superintendent.
After the passing of her husband, Nora Lee moved to Cambridge and worked at Airpax until her retirement. She then worked at Ocean Odyssey for Roy Todd. Once living in Cambridge, she started attending Grace Church and became a member of Dr. Hines Bible Class. Church functions and homecomings were very special to her.
A highlight of her retirement was traveling cross country. She also went on a cruise and to Ohio on several occasions to visit her daughter and family. Nora Lee enjoyed going to Dunkin’ Donuts and McDonald’s to spend time with her friends. She was a faithful visitor of the sick at the hospital and nursing homes. She was always thoughtful and caring for others and was loved by all who knew her.
Surviving are two daughters, Ruth Ann Holliday (Richard) of Bloomingburg, OH and Sharon Whitten Brittingham (George) of East New Market, MD; grandchildren Steve Whitten (Jenny) of Church Creek, Angela Kreiser (Kenny) of Cambridge, Shane Brittingham of Church Creek, Joyce Hook, Donald Holliday (Dorothy), Shelly Searles (Bob), and Leah Holliday of Ohio; 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Other special people in her life include her niece, Henrietta Jarrett, who Mrs. Dawson referred to as her “third daughter” and her cousin Louise Turner, whom she considered a sister; a brother-n-law and faithful neighbor Harold Dawson; sister-in-law Carolina Dawson; another special niece Regina Wroten; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death in addition to her parents and husband were son-in-law Ted Whitten; and special grandson Richard (Buddy) Holliday Jr.; two sisters Mannie Todd and Beulah Hughes, and brothers three Hilby Jones, Garland Jones, and Howard Fitzhugh.
