Normalee Marguerite Cusick, born on October 10, 1935, near Golden Hill, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home in Cambridge on April 15, 2026. She was a cherished member of her community, whose life was marked by dedication to family, friendship, and service.
Normalee’s early education began in Lakesville before she graduated from Cambridge High School with the Class of 1953. Her first job was at the Woolworth Five and Dime Store in Cambridge. Soon after, she accepted a position at Spicer's Lumber Yard in Golden Hill, conveniently close to her home. This proximity enabled her to care for her mother and father until their passing. Over 41 years, she became an indispensable figure at Spicer’s as the bookkeeper, contributing greatly to the operation until the business closed. Along the way, she formed many lifelong friendships.
A woman deeply devoted to her family, Normalee, although never married nor having children of her own, earned the affectionate title of “Mother Hen” among her 20 nieces and nephews. She was also their confidant, friend, and the treasured family historian, meticulously recording family reunions and gatherings in numerous notebooks—a tradition that endures today. The home she maintained in Golden Hill served as a sanctuary for weary travelers and family members facing hard times, a testament to her generous spirit.
Her life dramatically changed following Hurricane Isabel when she made the thoughtful decision to move to higher ground in Cambridge. She purchased a home in Bonnie Brook, where she lived in proximity to her two brothers and extended her home as a safe haven for family and friends. Normalee’s compassionate nature extended into volunteerism, where she dedicated time to the Robin Hood Shop with the Hospital Auxiliary.
A lifelong member of St. Johns Methodist Church at Golden Hill, Normalee fulfilled roles as trustee and treasurer over many years, reflecting her steadfast commitment to her faith community. She also devoted herself to the care of her sister and brothers, embodying the spirit of family responsibility and love.
In her later years, she found joy and companionship in visiting slot machines with her sister and friends, embracing simple pleasures with warm-hearted camaraderie.
Normalee was preceded in death by her parents and all siblings: Edgar A. Cusick, Charles Cusick, Sr., Clinton Cusick, Herbie Cusick, George Cusick, Helen C. Travers, Woodrow Cusick, and Robert Cusick.
She is survived by her beloved 20 nieces and nephews along with many great nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law Jane Cusick who will carry forward her legacy of warmth, care, and dedication to family.
Visitation for Normalee Marguerite Cusick will be held on April 21, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, located at 308 High Street, Cambridge, MD 21613. Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Cusick, Gary Cusick, Eugene T. Travers, Jr., Lynn Cusick, Wayne Cusick and Brian Cusick. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Cusick and Gary Brohawn, Sr.
Normalee’s life was richly woven with love, resilience, and generosity. She leaves behind a profound influence on all who knew her—a testament to a life gracefully lived and a heart forever open. Her memory will be deeply cherished by family, friends, and the community she so lovingly served.
