Onita Ann Lauck, 88, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away peacefully at Mallard Bay Nursing and Rehab Center in Cambridge, Maryland, on Wednesday evening, July 29, 2026.

Onita was born on November 19, 1937 in Dorchester County, Maryland to the late Everett Cannon Payne and Velma Hercelia Cohee.

Aside from her parents, Onita was preceded in death by her husband Harry “Bondy’’ Lauck, brother Russell Wheedleton, sisters Doris Smith and Charlotte Hearne. Additionally, preceding her in death were brothers-in-law James “Jimmy’’ Turpin and Elwood Smith.

Onita attended North Dorchester High School and graduated in the first graduating Class of 1955. Her nickname was “Nita” and her favorite sayings include, “Is that so’’ and farewell: “I hope the future will be as rewarding as the past.” Onita spent her life as a wife of a waterman in Secretary, Maryland. She enjoyed the simple things in life, such as steaming a pot of freshly caught crabs or taking an afternoon ride with her husband while snacking on cheese and crackers and having a “cold one.”

Left to mourn her passing is her sister Patsy Turpin, brother, Glen Payne and sister-in-law Connie Payne. Onita is survived by her son, Donald Richard Lauck and daughters, Donna Lauck Cohee and Cheryl Ann Lauck. Surviving grandchildren are Paula Lauck, Crystal Jones, Paul Jones Jr. and wife Renee, Aubree Harding and husband Brandon. Great grandchildren are Leigh Sails, Christian Mabery, Amari Bolten, Kylie Jones, Tatum and Lane Harding. Nephews include “G.A’’ Payne, “J.T.’’ Turpin, Marty Smith and Mark Smith. Nieces, Ashley Eberspacher and husband Scott, Kimberly White, Valerie Adkins, Dawn Cox, Melissa Gibbons, Kay Wyatt and additional nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 11:00 am-11:15 am at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, 6827 East New Market Elwood Rd Hurlock, Maryland 21643 with Pastor Jayson Bleyer officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., in Cambridge, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in memory of Onita may be sent to Baywater Animal Rescue at 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, Maryland 21613.
