Paul “Wilmer” “Brooksie” Brooks, age 97, of Cambridge, MD, died Sunday morning, June 7, 2009 at Dorchester General Hospital.

Born on March 17, 1912, in Dorchester County, MD, he was the son of the late Rev. Charles Wesley Brooks and Frederica Wilhelmina Schultz Brooks.

Mr. Brooks was a life member of Cambridge Wesleyan Church.

For his entire working career, he was an automotive mechanic having worked for Bennett’s Automotive which used to be located on Race Street in Cambridge.

In his earlier years, Mr. Brooks had been a member of the Rescue Fire Company and the Cambridge Moose Lodge 1211 where he had served as a past governor.

Mr. Brooks lived a good Christian life. He enjoyed playing gospel tapes, records and watching gospel shows on television. Mr. Brooks had also enjoyed attending church services while he had been a resident at Mallard Bay Care Center.

Surviving is his step-daughter Joyce “Peggy” Pardee of Delmar, DE; a brother Arnold “Buster” Brooks of Cambridge, MD; nieces Doris Era of Secretary, MD, Carole Spoon of Coudersport, PA, Karen Bell of Seaford, DE, Diane Murphy of Cambridge, MD; nephews Rev. Charles Welsey Brooks of Taneytown, MD, Clifford Brooks of Baltimore, MD, Kenneth E. Mills of Rehoboth, DE; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; special caregivers Genevieve B. Cannon, H. Rodney Cannon and Dr. Irving Mace Phillips, Jr.

Preceding him in death besides his parents was his first wife Elizabeth M. Brooks who died in 1977; his second wife Lois Burton Brooks who died in 2004; a brother Carlton Wesley Brooks; a sister Frieda Louise McCollister; a niece Ruth Ann Nichols; and a nephew Arnold Brooks, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10th at Cambridge Wesleyan Church, Race St., Cambridge, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Joseph C. Harmon, Pastor of Cambridge Wesleyan Church and Rev. Charles W. Brooks, nephew of the deceased. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be H. Rodney Cannon, Kenneth E. Mills, Jack Burton, Alan “Buck” Burton, Jay Burton, Mace Phillips and Dr. Irving Phillips.

In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Mr. Brooks memory to The Wesleyan Church Camp Fund, c/o Ms. Paulette Meekins, Treasurer, 1108 Race St., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to Signature Health Care at Mallard Bay Activity Dept., 520 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613.
