Raymond D. (aka Nick or Jr.) Willey, Jr., son of the late Raymond D. Willey and Elvia Marie Robbins Willey, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023.  He was 92.

Nick was born April 20, 1931 in Cambridge, Maryland.  He attended schools in Cambridge and graduated after 11 years in 1948.

Nick worked at Dorset Laundry and Phillips Packing Co. for a few years.  On January 15, 1952, he was inducted into the U.S. Army at Ft. G. Meade, MD.  While in the service and 16 weeks basic training he was assigned as a Supply Sgt. He served his entire two years of service at the 5th Armored Base in Camp Chaffee, AK.

After an honorable discharge in 1954 he went back to Phillips Packing Co. as a clerk in their electrical department.  In 1956 he was hired by the late Richard Roche at Cambridge Wire Cloth.  He started in the fabrication department and then a few years later he went to work in the production control department and retired after 40 years of service in 1996.

In 1955 on her birthday March 25th Nick married the former Betty Lois Wroten and they enjoyed 59 years of marriage.  In this union they had a daughter Linda Jean and two sons, David C and William H. Willey.  Betty passed away in May 2014.

Nick had many hobbies such as reading, playing cards, horseshoes, bowling and table tennis and listening to country music.  He was active in sports as an official coach or manager. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending their activities, sports, plays, etc.   

Nick was a member of the Maryland AARP, Maryland Farm Bureau and Post #88, 29th DIV.  He was former president and Hall of Fame Member of the greater Eastern Shore Bowling Association, former commander and life honorary member with over 60 years of service to the American Legion Post #91.

In addition to his parents and wife, Nick was preceded in death by his sisters Beverly Holley and Patricia A. Ruth Cuthbertson.

Nick is survived by his daughter Linda (Fred) Blaney of Delmar, MD, sons David (Linda) Willey of Hurlock, MD and William Willey of Preston, MD; grandchildren Adam (Dana) Blaney of Delmar, DE and Amanda (Kevin) Plotts of Hebron, MD and Stephen Willey of Goldsboro MD; great grandchildren Asher and Avery Blaney of Delmar, DE and Grayson and Madyson Plotts of Hebron, MD; brothers Wayne Willey, Gary (Janet) Willey and Robert ( Bonnie) Willey all of Cambridge, MD; several nieces, nephews and a special longtime friend Louise Turner Prahl.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, Cambridge beginning 12:00 noon with Rev. Steve Bloodsworth officiating.  A viewing and visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow the service in Dorchester Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Blaney, Kevin Plotts, Phil Reed, Jeff Willey, Troy Handy and Pat Larimore.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Stephen Willey and Ron Gleockler.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nicks name can be sent to the American Legion Dorchester,  Post #91, 98 Sunburst Highway, Cambridge, MD 21613.
