Raymond Wingate, Jr

Raymond Wingate, Jr., 59, of Cambridge passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 at UMSMC at Dorchester.
A life- long resident of the county that he dearly loved, Raymond was born in Wingate, Dorchester County, on October 19, 1954. He was the eldest son of the late Estelle Cedric and Raymond Wingate, Sr. He was very proud of his Native American Heritage.
For over 25 years, Raymond was a self employed Home Improvement Contractor. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed serving the local people.
Raymond loved the area. He enjoyed deep water fishing off of Ocean City, going to auctions, was a regular at the Recreation Center before its closing, and passionate about power boat racing. In earlier years he had owned the “Iron Eagle”, “Miss Angel”, “Painter’s Toy” and the 5 liter "Miss Sandy”. He was a member of the Hills Point Gang and Cambridge Powerboat Association.
Music also brought joy, a true fan of Ronnie Dove, Raymond was so thankful to be able to see one of his last shows. Raymond loved his family, all of his step children and step grandchildren were considered his own. Always a hard working individual, the past 10 years had been difficult for Raymond as his health declined. He was forced to close his business which was his life besides his family. As his body grew weaker, Raymond had prepared himself and was ready to go home with his Lord.
Surviving is his wife Sandra, whom he married June 12, 1996; brother Billy Wingate (Shawn); step children Christopher Frantum, Michael Frantum, Lee Gore, Buzzy Gore, Barbara Gore, Betty Paul and Candy Hurst; grandchildren Lisa Dietrich (Kenneth), Sandy Hurt, Frankie Dietrich, Roxanne Roe, Jeremy Cheezum, Tommy Paul, Allen Dietrich, Detrick Frantum and Raven Bryan; great-grandchildren Angel Dietrich, Justin Dean, Jason Dean, Josh Hurt, Shawn Hurt, Derek Hurt; great-great grandchildren Dakota Dietrich-Smith and Izaak Dean; special friends Roger Webster, Vivian Hastings, Bonnie Ross and Leslie “Morrie” Hubbard.
