Richard L. Yinger, 75, Fishing Creek, Maryland. Was born October 13, 1941 in Frederick, Maryland, passed away at home early Sunday morning, July 2, 2017 with his loving family by his side.

Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Christine L. Yinger, Children Belinda Rhoads (Michael) Barnesville, MD, Richard A. Yinger (Tina) Fishing Creek, MD, Mary Levesque (Eric) Lynchburg, VA. Grandchildren Justin Yinger, Cody Yinger (Shelby Macskill), Nicolas Levesque and Mackenzie Levesque, Brother Robert G. Yinger (Barbara) Niece Laura Yinger Lindley, Nephew Scott Yinger. Richard is preceded in death by his parents Mary R. Yinger and Glenn Yinger.

Richard graduated from Frederick High School in 1959. He retired from the City of Frederick’s Citizen Truck Company in 1997 with 29 years of service. Richard was the owner of the Frame Rack, a custom framing and art business for 25 years.

Richard was an elected Trustee of the Frederick County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, a member of Hooper’s Island and Church Creek Volunteer Fire Departments. He served as President of Dorchester County Volunteer Firemen’s Association and as a member of its Executive Committee. He was also a member of numerous other companies throughout the State of Maryland.

In 1994, Richard was elected as President of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association (MSFA), an association of more than 365 volunteer fire and rescue companies in Maryland. Richard was the first President elected from Frederick County, Maryland in 25 Years. He was inducted into the MSFA’s Hall of Fame in 1995. He served on numerous committees within MSFA and served as the MSFA’s Liaison to the Governor of Maryland. Additional committees he has served included: Chairman – County Bylaws committee, appointed State of Maryland Fire Commission, Chair 17 State Circle, appointed Advisory Board of Dorchester County, Chair of Governor’s Committee for Smoke Alarms for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People, was a member of the Emergency Medical Systems Board – Shock Trauma, member of the Governor’s Task force for Alternative Funding for the Volunteer Fire service. He remained active in the MSFA until the time of his death.

Richard was awarded Honorary Member of the Maryland State Police, and was made an Honorary State Trooper. He also achieved the distinction of being the first to receive the honorary position of Flight Crew Member of the Aviation Division of the Maryland State Police. He served as co-chair, Maryland State Helicopter Replacement Committee for the Maryland State Police.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., 308 High Street, Cambridge, MD.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 beginning at 1:00 pm at the Open Bible Church, 1619 Race Street, Cambridge, MD. The family will receive friends from Noon until the service begins.

Interment will follow at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church Cemetery, 917 Hoopers Island Road, Church Creek, MD
