Ronald “Ron” Homer Canida, 82, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away Monday evening, November 8, 2021 at home with his family by his side.

Born on February 10, 1939 in Keokuk, Iowa, he was the son of the late William Leon Canida and Mabel Moyer Canida.

Ron attended the local schools in Keokuk and graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1957.

On August 5, 1957 he joined the U.S.A.F. and served his country as an App Vehicle Operator.  Ron was honorably discharged from active duty on November 4, 1959.  He continued in reserves for another 2 years.

He married the former Janet Azinger on June 18, 1960.  He and Janet together raised 7 children and made their home in Pekin, Ill.  They then retired to Phoenix, AZ before relocating to Cambridge, MD.   Ron was the love of Janet’s life.

Ron enjoyed drag racing in his younger years.  In his later years he enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Lodge.  He was considered a dad full of “dad jokes”.  Ron and his “dad jokes” will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving him besides his wife Janet are his 6 sons Lance Canida, Leigh Canida, Lyle Canida (Kristi), Loren Canida (Kim), Landon Canida (Laurel), Lucas Canida (Cristina); a daughter Lori Canida Bratten (Bruce); 2 brothers Greg Canida (Carolyn), Michael Canida (Wendy); sister Mary Canida Clark (Tony); niece Heather Wylie; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his parents was his adopted mother Rose Starkey Canida; sister Joann Walters and grandson Jacob Flumer.

A Commital Service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 beginning 12:00 p.m. at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Hurlock, MD with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ron’s name came be sent to Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 A.C. Skinner Parkway, Suite 100, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
