Rosa P. Lewis,"Mom Mom Rosie", 90, formerly of Hoopersville, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the home of her grandson Burl with her family by her side.
The last child born in Applegarth, Maryland on April 28, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Calvert and Martha Woodland Parks. She attended local schools and helped her mother with the raising of her siblings. At an early age she loved her church and attended Hopkins Chapel before moving to the middle island and became a member of Hoopers Memorial United Methodist Church. As a life member of the church she served as treasurer since 1984 and was active with the Woman's Group WSCS.
Rosa married her sweetheart, Leon E. Lewis, Sr. on September 14, 1940. As a wife of a waterman she enjoyed being on the boat with her husband, being a housewife and raising her children. Mr. Lewis passed away in 1997. Although as affectionately being referred to as "Mom Mom Rosie", her grandchildren and many in her extended family always looked to her as a mother. Family and friends alike could always confide in her and expect a hug. Many will miss her but comfort will be found by those in knowing she is at home with The Lord.
Surviving are a daughter E. Charlotte Rippons; a son Lemuel S. Lewis, Sr. and wife Janet; sisters Ellen Ruark and Sara Phillips; grandchildren Janet Rippons Ruark , Buddy Lewis, Penny Rose Rippons White, Chandus Rippons, III., Burl Lewis, Jr., Lemuel Stephens Lewis, Jr., Agnes Justina Bloodsworth, Adam Lewis and Brittney Jump; 17 great grandchildren Bambi Dunn, Colleen Ruark, Edmond Leon Lewis, Jr., Levin Herbert Lewis, Sr., Mark White, Bronzie White, Justin White, Matthew Rippons, Julia Rippons, Hannah Lewis, Zachary Lewis, Sarah Lewis, Cassidy Thompson, Jasmine Thompson, Emily Bloodsworth, Logan Jump and Karson Jump; 6 great-great grandchildren Emma Simmons, Levin Lewis, Jr., Douglas White, Kristella White, Kylea White and Kody White .
Preceding Ms. Rosa in death besides her parents and husband are her children Leon E. Lewis, Jr., Burl C. Lewis, Sr., and Agnes Elizabeth Lewis; great-great grandchildren Angelina White and Konner White; siblings Benjamin Parks, Sr., Emma C Cannon and George C. Parks, Jr.
Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and two special nurse friends Jodi and Molly.
A funeral service will be held Friday, May 17, 2013 beginning 1:30 p.m. at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge. The family will receive friends from noon till 1:30.
Officiating the service will be Rev. Doug Ridley. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge .
Serving as pallbearers will be Bronzie White, Edmond Lewis, Levin Lewis, Mark White, Colleen Ruark and L. Stephen Lewis, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Parks, Jr., Joey Bloodsworth, Earl J. Lewis, Sr. and Clarence Ruark.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Ms. Rosa can be made to Hoopers Memorial Church Memorial Fund, c/o Janet Ruark, 1839 Hoopersville Rd., Fishing Creek, Maryland 21634.
