Ruth Virginia Rose, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, Maryland, on Sunday, August 2, 2026. Born September 15, 1937, Ruth’s life was a testament to unwavering love, gentle kindness, and enduring strength—qualities she shared generously with all those fortunate enough to know her.

Ruth's roots ran deep, instilled with values and warmth by her late parents, Carl Swartz and Nellie Wooters Swartz. Their guidance shaped the steadfast spirit that carried her through decades of joy and tribulation alike. Alongside her beloved husband John Rose, who preceded her in death, Ruth built a life marked by dedication to her family, creating a loving home that served as the heart of countless memories.

She was a devoted mother to John Ellerbusch, Dianne Ellerbusch, William Anderson, and Carl Anderson. Ruth’s love for her children was boundless, each of their accomplishments and challenges met with her encouragement, wisdom, and steady support. Her legacy continues through her joyful presence in the lives of her grandchildren: Linda Anderson (Justin Gibson) and many others; great grandchildren, Nicholas Presock, R.J. Martin, and Hunter Evans and many others. Their laughter and stories brought light to her days, and she treasured every moment spent watching them grow, gently offering guidance and unconditional love.

Ruth also leaves behind her dear sister, Agnes, whose steadfast companionship was a precious anchor through life’s journey. Together, they shared memories only siblings can truly understand—treasured moments of comfort, laughter, and understanding. Ruth’s family circle was touched by loss as well, mourning the absence of her grandson, JD Sapulos, whose memory remained close to her heart throughout her remaining years.

She was employed at McCroy’s Department Store, Coldwater Seafood and many years at R.J. Reynolds. She cared for many foster children who she dearly loved. Ruth also found great joy in selling Avon, going out to eat with friends and a little shopping on the side.

Ruth’s presence was defined not only by her dedication to her family but by her quiet acts of grace and compassion that left a lasting impression on her community. Her gentle words, welcoming smile, and caring heart lifted the spirits of those around her, ensuring that no one in her company felt alone or forgotten. Ruth’s adulthood was woven with threads of enduring friendship, tireless devotion, and a genuine desire to bring comfort and joy to others.

A graveside service honoring Ruth Virginia Rose’s remarkable life will be held at Dorchester Memorial Park, 5391 Aireys Rd, Cambridge, MD 21613, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather, share fond remembrances, and celebrate the love and kindness Ruth so freely gave.

Though Ruth has left this world, the echoes of her kindness, generosity, and love will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure; she is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
