Samuel L. "Sammy" Collins, 59, of Greenwood, Delaware passed away Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Nanticoke Hospital, Seaford, Delaware.
Born March 8, 1954 in Easton he was the son of the late Lucille Neal and Phillip G. Collins. He grew up in the Hurlock area and attended the local schools graduating from North Dorchester High School with the Class of 1972.
Sammy was an auto body specialist with the reputation of being an excellent painter who took great pride in his work. At the time of his passing he was employed with Harbor House Seafood taking care of the maintenance and repairs of their fleet of vehicles.
A free spirited easy going gentleman, Sammy loved to take off on his Harley Davidson. Taking bike trips with his friends was a favorite past time. Even though everyone knew Sam's patience was sometimes lacking, he was a great person to be around and always lots of fun. He had been looking forward to a planned trip to Branson on his bike with friends.
He was a member of the VFW Men's Auxiliary #5246.
Surviving is his companion Judi Rahe; a son Phillip R. Collins; his two considered daughters Brittany Davis and Brooke Douthit all of Greenwood, DE; a brother Fred Collins and his wife Nancy of Woolford, MD; a sister Linda Ratliff and her husband Arthur of Romney, W.VA; sister in law Joan Collins of Linkwood, MD; his considered grandchildren Haidyn Quinby and Kennedy Morris; nephews Clint Collins and wife Molly, Barry Ratliff and wife Anita, Aaron Ratliff; nieces LeAnn Lewis and Kara Phippin and husband Donnie; two great nieces, Karlie Lewis and Mackenzie Collins; six great nephews, Landon and Mason Ratliff, Blake Lewis, Chase Collins and Nathan and Brayden Phippin.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was a brother Nathan "Tink" Collins.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 beginning 1 p.m. at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Fred Bahr.
Members of VFW #5246 will also conduct a memorial service.
Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Collins, Russell Collins, Clint Collins, Aaron Ratliff, Barry Ratliff, Dickie Todd and Curt Miller.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., 308 High Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 to help defray funeral cost.
