Sharon Batterson

Sharon Lynne Batterson née Atwood of Fishing Creek, MD passed away surrounded by family, friends, and the exceptional staff at Dorchester General, on the 13th of May 2017. Sharon earned a bachelor’s degree from Towson University and had a long career in various roles including managerial in the field of Medical Administration and Billing where she worked for such organizations as Red Cross, TR Paul and IPS Physician Services which she helped start and build from the ground up. Sharon was tireless in her volunteer efforts having been involved with various civic, non-profit, and church related groups over her lifetime even volunteering at the local hospital post retirement, over those years she touched countless lives with genuine love and selflessness. Sharon is predeceased by her husband Walter Batterson and sister Barbara Jean Sabur née Atwood. Sharon is survived by her three children Lisa Seaton of NC, John Batterson of NC, and Christopher Batterson of ATL. Sharon is also survived by her companion William “Harvey” Cheezum, her brother Rex Atwood, and lastly 5 grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren who all became the light of her life. Services will be held at Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church in Fishing Creek, MD calling hours begin at 1 pm and the memorial service at 2pm on Thursday 5/18 with Rev. Doug Ridley officiating. In lieu of floral arrangements the family asks that donations be made in Sharon’s name to Patient Services Inc, a Non-profit organization which helps patients cover the high costs of premiums and medication co-pays. www.patientservicesinc.org
