Terence "Terry" Edward Dougherty

Terence “Terry” E. Dougherty, 87, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024 at UMSMC @ Easton.

Terry was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 6, 1936 and was the son of the late Charles Dougherty and Caroline Vance Dougherty.

He attended school in Philadelphia and graduated from Bartram High School with the class of 1954.  Terry then went on and received his MBA from Pepperdine University and made a career in mortgage banking.

Terry joined the U.S. Navy on February 14, 1955 and served his country during the Korean Conflict.  He served on the U.S.S. Everglades (AD-24). He was honorably discharged on April 13, 1959 with the Rank of SFM2.

On February 29, 2008 Terry married the former Janet Hendricks.

Terry was an avid sailor and his work in mortgage banking took him to both coasts where he enjoyed his love of sailing. He achieved his captain’s license which was fitting since he loved being on the water.  Terry was never idol, always creating or fixing something.  In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and flying model airplanes.

He managed several marinas in Talbot County and always enjoyed meeting people who shared his love for the water.

Terry is survived by his wife Janet of Cambridge and a brother William Frank of Pennsylvania; his mother and father- in-law Vera and Clayton Gourley; brother in-law Shawn Gourley (Lisa); sister in-law Julie Curran (Richard); niece Alexandria “Ali” Barbato and nephew William Dougherty.

Terry will be laid to rest in The Woodlands Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA on May 28, 2024.

Memorial contributions in Terry’s name can be sent to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930  Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
